Good sign for a dive bar. Our friend ordered a Pfifferlingsrisotto, risotto with mushrooms, that was light. I came here for a birthday night of a friend so it was the company that made it manageable. I really like the interior, it's airy, bright, and a bit rustic. Feel very fortunate that this place was right across the street from our hotel. Or under the bras hanging above the bar.
So -- great place to get back to your college roots and share a couple and a couple more, and a couple more Helle with friends. You know that scene in the Poseidon Adventure, where the water slowly fills up the room, leaving our heroes gasping for breath? Just make sure you take a deep breathe before diving in for more. This restaurant is such a breath of fresh air for a tourist desperately avoiding tourist traps. Dark, dingy and delightful -- wooden exposed beams, outposts of old Harley parts, smokin' hot pinups lazily taped to the walls and of course the dubious collection of bras hanging over the bar. Feel very fortunate that this place was right across the street from our hotel. The only aspect that is lacking a wee bit is the food.
After asking a server and greeted with another aloof disregard to customers we decided it was time to pay and go. Ein rockiger laden, nichts für seelentröster und hobbykapitäne, der Style in diesem Laden kommt nicht mit der Post!!! I like that the restaurant has a back patio seating area. My spouse had the Hausgemachte Ravioli, which he enjoyed, with chard and ricotta and a basil-tomato cream sauce. Oh and the free individual bottles of Jaegermeister they hand out with a large round of drinks. I had a milchkaffee with soy milk and a small plate of humus with bread.
Despite the rising flood of Universitaet crowds, this place is great. I was never one to appreciate dive bars, so my opinion is very biased on my personal taste. For instance, offering chopped onions, a lemon, and capers would really elevate the dish. Apparently, women can pay their drinks by giving their brasseries to the barkeepers. This consisted of a tiny slice of swarzbrot, 2 eggs, and kräuterquark. The outside garden looks very inviting but it was too cold to try. Again, if it's not your thing, don't go.
Left pretty drunk and happy. By midnight, the joint had swelled to near capacity. Supposedly one of the top hipster restaurants in Cologne, but I found it quite average. What about the after-work crowd??? So it is better to go there with friends rather than on your own to work. The problem with this meal is that they give you large helpings of the quark with not enough other food to put the quark on.
The bra thing still really interests me though. They had plenty of vegetarian options for lunch and cakes too. He liked my quark on it better than the horseradish sauce provided. Our friend ordered a Pfifferlingsrisotto, risotto with mushrooms, that was light. I do also like that they serve Van Dyck coffee. After reading the rave reviews, and hearing amazing word of mouth recommendations I was so eager to check it out. Met a friend here for dinner, and we all ended up ordering something different, as there were so many good choices.
They also serve organic Hefeweizen from Bavaria. Please be warned that to describe security status of Bar-sehnsucht. Now, don't get me wrong. There's also an adorable patio and an enclosed back area with a glass ceiling. Overall, the place is ok, but has not quite reached Instagram perfect yet. He and his look-alike brother run the place and are very cool, interesting, inviting people. Apparently, women can pay their drinks by giving their brasseries to the barkeepers.
The very first thing I noticed was the hanging ceiling of brasseries nearly touching the barkeepers whilst they served drinks to guests. The service was quick and friendly. Again, if it's not your thing, don't go. Plain and simple, and certainly did the trick on a Friday night in which I needed a few beers t. The very first thing I noticed was the hanging ceiling of brasseries nearly touching the barkeepers whilst they served drinks to guests. We had a few questions which the server seemed genuinely disinterested and incapable of answering basic questions about the menu.
Now, don't get me wrong. Second, the bathroom is freezing cold. There is some seating, but not much. I had a milchkaffee with soy milk and a small plate of humus with bread. Food is good though and staff is helpful and friendly. And i like that they serve the local van dyck coffee.
